Greg Norman Returns To Cobra Golf

imageOne of my favorite players (and entrepreneurs) has joined what is rapidly becoming one of my favorite club companies.

Greg Norman will be “Global Brand Ambassador” for Cobra Golf, both working on product develoment and playing the company’s clubs.

It is not Norman’s first stint at Cobra: The Great White Shark was originally signed as Cobra’s spokesman in 1991. As part of the deal, he received partial ownership in the company and the opportunity to own Cobra’s distribution network in Australia. Norman helped design the company’s first forged irons.

In 1996, Norman was part of the sale of Cobra to Fortune Brands, the owner of Titleist. The $44 million that Norman reaped from the sale was in part responsible for his rift with IMG. IMG wanted a cut of Norman’s profits, while Norman insisted that he had negotiated the deal himself.

Since originally parting ways with Cobra, Norman has endorsed MacGregor and TaylorMade.

Cobra has since been sold to apparel company Puma.

Norman will play Cobra’s BiO CELL Driver 8.5, BiO CELL Fairway and BiO CELL Hybrid, all in black; AMP CELL Pro Irons 3-PW; and Tour Trusty Wedges 52 and 57.

  1. It’s a great coup for Cobra with Norman’s global appeal sure to help the company.

Cobra is no doubt on the rise with many top players such as Rickie Fowler now using them. I actually use a Cobra BIO Cell which until the last 2 years never thought I would ever play this brand.
