I’m a fan of the Gull Lake View collection of courses, so I was happy to note that Dean Kolstad, the PGA Director of Golf at Gull Lake View has been named the Michigan PGA Section’s 2021 Golf Professional of the Year.

I’ve got to get back to play a couple of those again this fall. In particular, I love Stoatin Brae and Stonehedge South.

Augusta, MI – Dean Kolstad, PGA Director of Golf at Gull Lake View Golf Club and Vice President of the Michigan PGA, has been selected by the Michigan Section PGA as the 2021 Golf Professional of the Year.

The prestigious honor is awarded to the professional who has demonstrated outstanding qualities of leadership and strong moral character. The individual must also maintain a substantial record of service to the Association and game of golf and be well-regarded as a model PGA Professional.

“I am very excited to have received this award from the Michigan PGA,” says Kolstad, a 20-year golf industry veteran who oversees six golf courses, including the new award-winning Stoatin Brae. “To be recognized and selected by your peers is very humbling and I am honored to represent this great game and the organization that oversees all of our PGA Professionals nationwide. It’s also a testament to the wonderful team that I’ve worked with over the years to make Gull Lake View one of the top golf destinations in Michigan and the Midwest.”

Kolstad was recognized by his peers for his dedicated performance as a golf professional; he oversees six courses and four golf shops, along with more than 100 golf operations employees. He is also being recognized for his service to the Section and the Association, leadership ability image, ability to inspire others, and his promotion and growth of the game. He is also a PGA HOPE instructor at the VA Medical Center in Battle Creek, Mich.

Kolstad has been a PGA Professional and member of the PGA of America since 2001. He has worked for the Gull Lake View Golf Club – specifically the Bedford Valley Golf Course and now the new Stoatin Brae for 20+ years. He was also selected as the 2019 recipient of the Patriot Award for personifying patriotism through golf and demonstrating unwavering commitment and dedication to the men and women who have valiantly served and protected our country.

Prior to his career in golf, Kolstad played 10 years of professional hockey, splitting his time between the NHL’s Minnesota North Stars and San Jose Sharks. He also played for various minor league teams and has been involved with coaching hockey at a professional level. He now provides the same high-level coaching in golf through individual lessons, clinics and seminars. He enjoys golf instruction at every skill level, giving men and women the tools and confidence to improve their game and achieve their goals. His biggest belief is that golf is a game for life and can be enjoyed whether you’re playing competitively or just to have fun with friends and family.
