Hale Irwin and Bernard Langer At The 1991 Ryder Cup

irwin-langerThe “War By The Shore” came down to the final match, and the final green. Bernhard Langer needed to win the hole to win the match for Europe to retain the Cup. Hale Irwin needed a half to get the cup back for the United States. Langer conceded Irwin’s putt, knowing that he needed just two to get into the hole from 45 feet.

But Langer three putted, and the US won the 1991 Ryder Cup.
