Hash Browns Recalled For Golf Ball Contamination

Batches of hash browns sold by McCain Foods, USA under the Roundy’s and Harris Teeter labels are being recalled for golf ball contamination. Read the FDA Report here.

A field where the potatoes are grown apparently was too close to a golf ball driving range, and a few wayward balls may have been harvested as well. The Food and Drug Administration says that “consumption of these products may pose a choking hazard or other physical injury to the mouth.” I also imagine that swallowing surlyn and various rubbers can’t be good for your digestive tracts, either.

The hash browns with golf ball contamination occurred in Roundy’s Brand, 2 lb. Bag of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns (UPC 001115055019) and Harris Teeter Brand, 2 lb. Bag of Frozen Southern Style Hash Browns (UPC 007203649020). According to the FDA, the  Roundy’s products were distributed at Marianos, Metro Market, and Pick ‘n Save supermarkets in the states of Illinois and Wisconsin. The Harris Teeter products were distributed in the states of North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia and Maryland. Distribution occurred after the date of January 19, 2017.
