How To Stop Topping Woods / Fairway Metals
On my last wintry round, I found myself topping my woods. The usual quick fixes, such as adjusting ball position and stance didn’t work. I also tried the trick of putting a tee a few inches in front of the ball; the goal is to hit the tee after the ball. That worked a bit.
It was quite frustrating, so when I got back, I looked up a few videos on topping the woods.
After watching a few, my takeaway was that my old nemesis — the chicken wing — was back, and it was causing me to pull up, rather than extend through. Thus, the top.
I thought the videos below were fairly useful (see what I did there? fairly. fairway.)
