The par three sixth hole at Ypsilanti’s Green Oaks Golf Course has long been a nemesis of mine—in spite of my having scored a hole in one there several years ago. I can’t count the number of balls that I’ve dunked in that pond. It is not quite as menacing when the surface is iced over, however. One of the guys in my group hit a high short shot that landed right in the middle of the pond. The ball skipped forward and up toward the green. It caught the lip of the shore, however, and bounced back. He then stepped out onto the ice to play his pitch to the green. Dangerous, but he got away with it.
