In the mail for review this week is a box of OnCore Vero X1 Golf Balls (manufacturer’s site)

The Vero X1 is OnCore’s challenge to the supremacy of the ProV1 in the high-launch, low-spin, distance-and-control, premium ball category.

OnCore’s Vero X1 features a cast urethane cover wrapped around a “nano-engineered transition” layer, a metal-infused mantle and a “super fast” core. It has an effective 85 compression.

Interestingly, OnCore touts a perimeter-weighting technology and moment of inertia that results in lower driver spin rates, less dispersion, and a more stable flight.

That’s the first time I’ve seen “moment of inertia” and “perimeter weighting” used outside of a clubhead. MOI usually refers to a clubhead’s resistance to twisting, while perimeter weighting helps with forgiveness on off-center hits and a generally higher ball flight.

For the OnCore X1, the perimeter-weighted, high Moment of Inertia design is supposed to create higher ball speeds with tighter dispersion.

OnCore says that an independent study by Golf EQ shows that the Vero X1 outperforms the Pro V1 and Pro V1x incomposite golf rankings The Vero 1x scored a 372.68, while the Pro V1 and Pro V1x scored 350.83 and 362.26 respectively.

The Golf EQ study also showed that the Vero X1 had 60% less side spin than the Pro V1 models.

I’m looking forward to testing these in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get in a few rounds with them before the snow flies here in Michigan.

As a side note, it’s a bit late in the game, but OnCore has a collection of Halloween logo balls. You can get the logos printed on the Avant 55, the ELIXR or the Very X1 balls. The Avant 55 is a super soft, low compression, two piece ball for moderate swing speeds. The ELIXR is a three piece with a cast urethane cover.
