Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic

imageThe LPGA is coming to Sylvania, Ohio, which is just outside of Toledo, and about forty five minutes south of the beautiful and spacious GolfBlogger World Headquarters. The Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic will be played this week at Sylvania’s Highland Meadows Golf Club.

The tournament dates back to 1984, when Toledo native and PGA Caddy Judd Silverman decided to bring professional golf to the area. With twelve sponsors in hand, Jamie Farr (Klinger on MASH), also a Toledo native agreed to lend his name and image to the event. The first tournament attracted 100 golfers and had a purse of $175,000, which was underwritten by Toledo McDonald’s franchises. A portion of the proceeds went to the Ronald McDonald Houses. This year’s purse is $1 million.

Mi Hyun Kim is the defending champion.

Nancy Lopez has committed to playing, but I have yet to find a list of who else is in the field. If Natalie Gulbis is going to be there, I might drive down to take a look.
