Jordan Out; Cook In

President’s Cup Captain Fred Couples has named John Cook to replace Michael Jordan as vice captain. Jordan says his responsibilities as the NBA Bobcats owner will keep him away; I assume that has to do with the ongoing lockout.

In any event, I think Cook makes a lot more sense as a vice captain. He’s an 11 time PGA Tour winner who also has eight victories on the Champions Tour. Perhaps more importantly, he was a member of the Buckeyes’ 1979 NCAA Championship team, and the victorious 1993 Ryder Cup team. In 1983, he and Rex Caldwell won the World Cup of Golf competition. Cook has experience with winning golf and more importantly, with winning team golf.

That, combined with Steve Stricker’s recent assurances that Tiger is ready to play make me feel a little better about this President’s Cup.
