Legendary actress Katharine demonstrates her golf swing in this scene from the comedy Pat and Mike, which co-starred Spencer Tracy.
Hepburn was a skilled golfer who, in her youth, had made it to the semifinals of the Connecticut Young Women’s Golf Championship. She also was a swimmer and tennis player.
Pat and Mike was released in 1952 and earned its writers nomination for the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. Hepburn was nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance.
Directed by George Cukor, the film centers on Pat Pemberton (Hepburn), a talented multi-sport athlete whose skills are hindered by her overbearing fiancé, Collier Weld (William Ching). Determined to prove herself, Pat teams up with Mike Conovan (Spencer Tracy), a sports promoter. Under Mike’s guidance, Pat excels in golf and tennis, gaining confidence and independence.
And of course, there’s the on- and off-screen chemistry between Hepburn and Tracy, who engaged in a decades-long affair (although Tracy remained married throughout).
If you’re a fan of classic movies, it’s worth a watch.
