Lack of Talent At The Wyndham? Couples Playing To Keep Card

I’d hate the be the sponsors and organizers of the Wyndham Championship. With all of the top talent coming off the PGA Championship, and potentially facing four straight weeks of play in the FedEx Cup Championship, the talent is really thin. I was just looking at the PGA Tour’s preview and here are the to ten bets to win: Tim Clark, Lucas Glover, J.J. Henry, David Toms, Sergio Garcia, Brandt Snedeker, Michael Letzig, Davis Love III, Carl Petterson and Kevin Streelman.

Suprisingly, Fred Couples is not on the list—he’s come close to winning twice this year and is 90th in the FedEx standings. But Fred’s there because he needs to play in three more tournaments this season to keep his Tour card. A player must play in a minimum of 15 events. Couples has twelve.

Boom Boom has been busy planning for the President’s Cup, so it’s understandable that he hasn’t gotten in as many events as he’d like. In fact, he apparently petitioned the PGA Tour to let him count being Captain of the President’s Cup as the equivalent of playing one event.

His request was denied.
