Over the past 21 years, with one exception, the Masters champion has been ranked no lower than T2 following 54 holes (Zach Johnson was t4 in 2007). Last year’s champion, Charl Schwartzel, was T2 entering the final round.
We can expect therefore, that either Peter Hanson or Phil Mickelson will win the Tournament.
A 54 hole lead, however, is not a sure thing. Here are the biggest 54 hole leads lost at the Masters:
6 strokes Greg Norman 1996 finished 2nd
5 strokes Ed Sneed 1979 finished 2nd
4 strokes Ken Venturi 1956 finished 2nd
4 strokes Rory McIlroy 2011 finished T15
