Five of the top six golfers in the world to compete in Ann Arbor

The field for next week’s LPGA Volvik Championship is set — and it is impressive.

Along with defending champion Ariya Jutanugarn, the field includes five of the top six golfers: So Yeon Ryu, Jutanugarn, In Gee Chun. Lexi Thompson and Shanshan Feng. Other notables in the LPGA Volvik Championship field include Anna Nordqvist, Brooke Henderson, Stacy Lewis, Jessica Corda, Chella Choi, Michelle Wie, Morgan Pressel, Paula Creamer, Christina Kim along with veterans Laura Davies and Juli Inkster. In all, 17 of the top 25 will tee it up at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor.

“We are pleased with the quality of the field,” Tournament Director Keith Karbo said. “There is a strong list of current top notch LPGA names along with some of the greats of the game that will tee it up.”

Last year’s LPGA Volvik champion, Jutanugarn, led the Tour with five wins and recorded 11 additional top-10 finishes.

Jutanugarn became only the second player to win the Rolex Player of the Year, Race to the CME Globe and the LPGA Official Money Title ($2,550,947) in the same season, joining Lydia Ko (2015). She was also the second- youngest Rolex Player of the Year in the 50-year history of the award (Ko, 2015).

At the 2016 LPGA Volvik Championship, Jutanugarn carded a final round 67 to win by five-strokes at 15-under par, five strokes clear of her nearest competitor, Christina Kim. It was Jutanugarn’s third consecutive win on the LPGA Tour and the first to accomplish the feat since Inbee Park in 2013.

Travis Pointe Country Club will host practice days on Monday, May 22 and Tuesday, May 23. The A123 Systems Pro-Am will take place Wednesday, May 24 with the first of the four-day, 72-hole competition starting on Thursday, May 25 ending Sunday, May 28.
