Magzook Magnetic Belt
Teacher’s Comments: Very clever
The Magzook belt, which currently is in its final days as a Kickstarter, is a very clever and perfectly executed idea.
Made from military style webbing, the belt actually is hollow and is embedded with a sliding uber-strong magnet. The belt laces through the thin metal buckle, and the end , which has a fixed magnet, snaps to the sliding one. This keeps the belt from dangling, and eliminates the necessity for holes for a traditional buckle’s prongs.
My first thought was that the combination of the sliding magnet and fixed end magnet would not be strong enough to hold during daily use. That turned out not to be an issue. Once fixed in place on the side, the magnet simply doesn’t slide around.
The design also means that if you need an extra half inch — or need to cinch it up — as the day progresses, you can adjust on the fly.
On the Kickstarter, the belt is offered with four different buckles and four different webs. The Kickstarter video is below:
I really like the belt, and hope that it catches on.
