The Majestic will receive the honor at the MGCOA Awards Banquet on the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 28, during the 2017 Michigan Golf Business Conference and Vendor Fair at the FireKeepers Casino Hotel in Battle Creek.

The award honors a MGCOA member course in good standing that has demonstrated exceptional quality of the golf course, exceptional quality of ownership and management, outstanding contribution to its community and significant contribution to the game.

“The Majestic has a rich tradition of providing golfers with excellent conditions and outstanding service in a beautiful environment,” Kate Moore, executive director of the MGCOA said. “The golf experience at The Majestic is exceptional and being recognized as the 2017 Golf Course of the Year is well-deserved.”

Bill Fountain, operating partner of The Majestic, said the award is humbling and an honor.

“This recognition is a tribute to our wonderful staff which has taken great pride in the vision we have to make the Majestic not only a top golf experience, but a place where people are proud to work as well as play,” he said.

The Majestic, a 27-hole Jerry Matthews-designed championship golf course, opened to the public in 1994. It is set in a Northern Michigan environment in Hartland, but is located less than a one-hour drive from downtown Detroit. Breathtaking views and abundant wildlife can be found among the beautiful hardwoods and meadows surrounding Lake Walden.

“This is the perfect piece of property for a golf course,” Fountain said. “Once you are out there on the course you rarely see another golfer. The course is laid out the way it was shaped by the glaciers long ago.”

The first 18 holes wind around the 150-acre spring-fed Lake Walden and the facility is spread over 1,400 acres. It includes a full complement of amenities including banquet facilities, a natural driving range and ample putting greens.
