Max Homa – Do Whatever U Want
Max Homa is one of the most interesting personalities in golf, with his razor-sharp wit and strong social media presence. He’s one of the few I pay attention to on whatever that 280-character platform is called these days.
One of Homa’s latest posts is advice I think nearly everyone should consider: If you are not a tournament player, do what you want.
The game is “impossible.” He’s not wrong.
Roll the ball over. Slide it out of divots. Free drop away from that tree root that’s going to destroy your hands and your club. Take a three-foot gimmie. Pick it up and drop on the green instead of going all Tin Cup and hitting four balls into a pond. Toss the ball out of a sand trap instead of making a fourth attempt to make that wedge behave. Kick an OB ball back into play. Drop a ball where you last saw it instead of taking going back to hit it again.
If there’s no money on it, who cares? The only question is: are you having fun?
The average golf score is 100 and has been for a very long time. Ninety nine point nine percent of us will never win a tournament. Only a few will every actually play in a tournament. Scramble outings don’t count. You KNOW everyone is cheating in those. There’s no way five groups come in at 25 under and the winner is 32 under.
So take Homa’s advice. Play in the way that makes it the most fun.
