Meijer LPGA Classic Has Strong Field

The Meijer LPGA Classic, held June 11 – 16 in Grand Rapids, Michigan will feature some of the top talent on the LPGA.

Currently committed to attend are four of the five past Meijer LPGA Champions, including So Yeon Ryu Brooke Henderson, Lexi Thompson and Mirim Lee. Also playing are Christie Kerr, Inbee Park, Moran Pressel and Gabby Lopez.

2018 Champion So Yeon Ryu has gone all-in for the Meijer LPGA Classic and its Simply Give food bank charity. Shortly after winning the Meijer LPGA Classic, she donated $100,000 to the Simply Give program. That represents a full third of her winner’s share of the purse.

“Our field looks great so far, and we are absolutely thrilled that most of our past champions are returning to Grand Rapids to compete for the title,” said Cathy Cooper, Executive Director of the Meijer LPGA Classic. “We love having these incredible athletes right here in our back yard, supporting our cause of feeding hungry families. They all have been wonderful ambassadors of our tournament since Day One.”

For those not in Michigan, Meijer is an iconic chain of grocery and merchandise superstores headquartered in Grand Rapids. They are immense. I remember walking into my first one after I moved to Michigan and being overwhelmed by the size. The average Meijer is 200,000 to 250,000 square feet. A Target, by comparison averages 135,000 square feet.

Meijer was founded by Hendrick Meijer in Greenville, Michigan in 1934, and has expanded to 242 stores with revenue of $16.6 billion in 2016.
