I agree with this analysis. Too many times we suspend our good judgment and attempt a shot that ruins the round. Of course one must practice situational conservatism. Often betting games require more daring and match play situations often dictate going for a low percentage shot. However, our day to day stroke play results will definitely improve if we avoid electing unsound options.
I am not sure about putting from 20-40 yards out. There may be a few courses where the fairway is cut tight enough to roll a ball but most public layouts will make that option tough to pull off.
