Bedford Valley Will Host The 2021 Michigan Senior Open

Top Michigan Senior Golfers Head to Bedford Valley Golf Club for the 2021 Club Car Senior Open Championship Presented by ADN Administrators

   BATTLE CREEK – A field of 125 decorated golfers, including PGA Professionals, top amateurs, 14 Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members and 16 past champions, are entered in the 2021 Club Car Senior Open presented by ADN Administrators set for Tuesday and Wednesday at Bedford Valley Golf Club.

   Defending champion and Michigan Golf Hall of Fame Member Steve Maddalena of Jackson will look for back-to-back wins against a star-studded field when he tees off at 8:45 am on Tuesday.

  Maddalena will be competing against 13 other Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members in the field including PGA Professionals Scott Hebert from Traverse City Golf & CC, Ron Beurmann of the Country Club of Jackson, Bob Ackerman of West Bloomfield and  Bob Ackerman Golf, Brian Cairns from the Fox Hills Learning Center, Randy Erskine, PGA Life Member from Lake Orion, Jack Seltzer of Linden and the Jack Seltzer Golf Academy, Dave Kendall of Saline and the Kendall Golf Academy,  Tom Harding from Carl’s Golfland, Jeff Roth from the BOYNE Golf Academy, John Traub , PGA Life Member from Royal Oak, Tom Werkmeister of Hudsonville and amateurs Greg Davies of West Bloomfield and Bill Zylstra of Dearborn Heights.

 Three of these Michigan Golf Hall of Fame members, Cairns, Werkmeister and Davies are heading into this event after participating this week in the U.S. Senior Open at Omaha Country Club in Nebraska.

  Maddalena tops the list of past champs with Kendall and Beurmann, who are former two-time champions. Ackerman, Cairns, Roth, Werkmeister and Erskine also have Senior Open titles on their rich resumes. The other past champions in the field are Frank McAuliffe of Meadowbrook CC, Steve Wells of Dowagiac and Hampshire CC, Denis Husse of Fenton and Tyrone Hills, Ron English of Charlotte, Ian Harris of Bloomfield, Chuck Pohl of Lansing and Larry Clark of Traverse City.

  Roth heads into the event after participating last week in the PGA Tour’s  Rocket Mortgage Classic at Detroit Golf Club.

 The field will play 36 holes of stroke play for a purse yet to be determined. This is the 39th edition of the state championship for seniors (age 50-and-over), and includes a 65-and-over super senior division. Play starts at 8 a.m. Tuesday and the public is welcome.

  Bedford Valley Golf Club is part of the Gull Lake View collection of six courses near Battle Creek and Kalamazoo including the new Stoatin Brae course. Bedford Valley was a 2008-2009 Best Places to Play selection by Golf Digest and in 2010 was named the Michigan Golf Course of the Year by the Michigan Golf Course Owners Association.

  It was designed in 1965 by William Mitchell and purchased by the Scott Family of Gull Lake View in 1988. The classic parkland design is known locally as “The Big Course” and features big greens, bunkers and fairways lined with large oak trees.

  Bedford Valley has hosted several of the state’s top tournaments including the Michigan Open, multiple Michigan Senior Opens, the Michigan Maxfli PGA Junior, the Michigan Publinx State Match Play and the NCAA Division III National Championship.
