A developer may soon get the state’s permission to build a full-scale replica of St. Andrews on the shores of Lake Huron in Oscoda County. The plan first was floated in 2009, but Michigan authorities balked. Now, under a new administration, the project may get new life.
But time has almost run out. The developer also says he is looking at a site in Illinois.
Lets hope Michigan doesn’t screw this one up. Having a St. Andrews replica, I think, would be a golf tourism coup of major proportions. Maybe the Golf Association of Michigan should get involved in lobbying for this.
