Michigan Open Entry Deadline Is May 13

The deadline for the 98th Michigan Open Championship is May 13, 2015. The Championship will be held at Prestwick Village Golf Club in Highland Township on June 9 – 11.

The Championship is open to Michigan residents with a handicap of 8.0 or less. Presenting sponsor LaFontaine Cadillac will award the 2015 champion a one year-lease on a new Cadillac ATS.

Online registration is available at http://www.michiganpgagolf.com. Players can also call the Michigan PGA Section office at 517-641-7421 to register.

The tournament will use a qualifying events system to determine the starting field of 156 golfers. Those qualifying rounds will be presented between May 18 and May 31 at sites across the state.

The sites include Pine Lake Country Club in Orchard Lake, Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor and The Moors Golf Club in Portage on Monday, May 18, Country Club of Lansing on Tuesday, May 19, Orchard Lake Country Club (PGA Members only) on Wednesday, May 20, the TPC of Michigan in Dearborn on Tuesday, May 26 and Boyne Highlands – The Moor in Harbor Springs on Sunday, May 31.

In addition, a three-spot qualifier for the final trio of spots in the starting field will be held on Saturday, June 6, at Flint Elks Golf Club. That event can serve as a first or second qualifying attempt.

A tiered entry rate is in effect for 2015 with Michigan PGA Junior Tour members paying $100 to enter, amateurs $175, Michigan PGA member professionals $200 and non-member professionals $350.

Ryan Brehm, from Grand Rapids, MI is the defending champion.  Ryan finished with a 4 day tournament total of 268 (-20) last year, two shots ahead of Joey Garber. Ryan won $8,500 and the one year lease on the Cadillac ATS courtesy of LaFontaine Cadillac.

One of the state’s longest-running sports events, the Michigan Open was first played in 1916 and won by Leo Diegel, who also played in the inaugural Ryder Cup matches and The Masters Tournament in Augusta, Ga.
