More On Future PGA Schedule Revealed

Doug Ferguson, Associated Press Golf writer says that more is being revealed of the PGA’s plan to redo its schedule:

The sources, who are involved in discussions and spoke on condition of anonymity, said The Players Championship was virtually a lock to move from late March to May, and that it would be the week after the Wachovia Championship at Quail Hollow. The Tour Championship, held each year at East Lake in Atlanta, would come after the Deutsche Bank Championship outside Boston.

The sources said Finchem might try to move the American Express Championship — typically played in September in either the United States or Europe — to March to fill the Players’ void, meaning it likely would be held in Florida. Another world event, the Accenture Match Play Championship, appeared headed from soggy La Costa Resort outside San Diego to Tucson, Ariz. starting in 2007

.

I think that, all in all, these changes would be a good thing. And there apperently is still talk of ending the season with a NASCAR-like tour championship series. I still think, though that the season needs to end in September, just as American college and pro football seasons get underway. Even a Tour Championship series can’t be seriously expected to compete for the attention of the sports-minded male.

  1. How would I find out when the next time the British Open will be played at St. Andrew’s?  I would like to plan a family vacation to the Isles to coincide and get tickets. Any ideas?  Thanks, Jeff
