My Masters Picks 2011

I play in an online league that requires you to pick ten golfers whose total value comes in under $20 million. Here are my picks

1. Steve Stricker – $4,190,235
2. Phil Mickelson – $3,821,733
3. Hunter Mahan – $3,574,550
4. Bubba Watson – $3,198,998
5. Y.E. Yang – $1,301,726
6. Tiger Woods – $1,294,765
7. Fred Couples – $500,000
8. Tom Watson – $500,000
9. Martin Kaymer – $500,000
10. Charl Schwartzel – $500,000

Picking golfers under these conditions is tricky.  My stratgegy is to have a couple of guys who will be top finishers, but the most likely suspects also are the most expensive. I think any of my top four could win. Then, there are the guys I expect to well, but not win (Tiger and Yang) in this case. And finally, I have two flyers and two sentimental favorites. I just hope that Watson and Couples make the weekend. I was surprised to see that Kaymer is only $500,000 because he’s also in that category of potential winner in my mind. I’m hoping he channels his golfing hero, Bernhard Langer.

I’ve got some money to spare under the cap, but that’s ok because I can drop one of the players as the weekend goes on and pick up another. I’ll be looking for that dark horse to replace one of my guys who doesn’t make the cut.

Not on my final list, but a guy whom I strongly considered: Ernie Els.

Who are your favorites?

  1. I’m a Phil guy and I’m hoping he continues his excellent ball striking from the last two rounds of the Shell last week.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Matt Kuchar do good though – I could certainly see him teeing off late on Sunday.

My best case scenario (since I plan on watching as much as possible on TV) is for a certain golfer (*cough Tiger cough*) to miss the cut and Phil to win. That would make Saturday and Sunday’s TV-fest much more fun for me personally.

  2. I am SouthernBuckeye in the same league as you Blogger-

    My team is:
    Phil
    Bubba
    Rickie
Rory (Waiver move today as he was on the 17th, taking out Dustin Johnson)
    Graeme
    Padraig
    Tiger
    Baddeley
    Freddie
