NetFlix For Golf?

Here’s an interesting concept: For a monthly membership fee, GolfRedefined.Com lets golfers borrow a driver for testing, play it for a period of time, and then send it back for another. It’s the Netflix of golf.

The key will be the availability of clubs, and the timeliness of shipping. It’ll work fine if golfers can get the clubs they want to test drive in reasonable amount of time. But if you put in a request and have to wait weeks …. not so much.

Select, Test and Swap the Hottest Drivers in Golf

New Concept for Today’s Golfers

New York, NY (April 17, 2013) – Golfers never tire of trying out new equipment and evaluating what might just be the magic club of the season to drop their handicaps, provide an edge in tournaments or simply impress their buddies.  Now with GolfRedefined.com, a new membership website, golfers can find the perfect driver to suit their game by selecting, testing and swapping clubs.  Think “Netflix” for golf!

GolfRedefined.com is the first online site to give golfers the opportunity to select, test and swap the very best drivers on the market.  For an affordable monthly membership fee, golfers can order the hottest drivers as soon as they hit the market.  All top brands are offered and almost every manufacturer’s driver is included in the product line-up.

“We created GolfRedefined.com to revolutionize the way golfers identify and select the best driver that works for them and the only way to do this is to test and play in real conditions with a number of models before the perfect match is found,” says Lorne Fierbach, CEO of GolfRedefined.com.  “Why pay $400 for a top driver only to learn that the club really doesn’t feel right or perform.  With one of our membership packages everyone now can try out the best brands to find the right club for their game.  GolfRedefined.com members might decide to keep one driver all season and swap the following year for the newest model.”

Golfers interested in joining GolfRedefined.com should visit the website and select a membership category:  Birdie, Hole-in-One or Eagle.  Each membership tier offers different benefits and club choice options.

Membership in GolfRedefined.com starts at $24.95 per month and goes up to $39.95 per month, or for an even better value, members can sign up for quarterly packages.  Golfers not interested in a membership still are able to enjoy the benefits of the program through a “Rent Only” option.

“We want golfers to rethink how they see the driver in their bag.  There is no need to purchase one because we allow golfers to have whatever driver they want, for as long or short a time as needed.  We offer flexibility and simplicity,” Fierbach commented.  “We’re providing a unique service as part of the industry effort to help grow the game, and making golfers happy is something we easily can accomplish.”

GolfRedefined.com initially will be offering right-handed men’s drivers with plans to introduce other clubs for both men and women as the company grows.

  1. Looking at it, the choices in the Birdie ($24.95) package is a selection of drivers from two years ago – most of which could be had today for $99-$199.

Even some like the Cleveland Classic from last year, which is under $200 now, is marked for one of the higher levels.

For the current year, newest and best drivers, you have to select the top end.

Still interesting.  It is often not possible to get a demo club for a specific club you might be interested in, and then you only may have it to take to a range and not to play a couple rounds with.  But the other thing is you won’t get fit with the right shaft and such – but you will get to compare and try out the off the rack versions.

However, drivers I think are the easiest to try out in the hitting bay.  Every other club is what I really need at the course.

  2. I was a little surprised to see they didn’t build shipping into the cost of the membership plan—everytime you want to try another club, it’s another $13 – $15 a pop. So if you participated for 3 months and tried 1 driver a month, that’d be $109 – $165 (including shipping), depending on the plan.

So cost-wise, it’s a pretty close call between renting through this service and just buying a new club of a prior model year. If you shop for used clubs, you could buy two used drivers for that much money.

Of course, with renting you don’t have to commit to one club, which of course is the main draw with this service. But if you just buy a club (or two) outright, then that money is spread out over the life of the club rather than being up in smoke after 3 months.

It’s an interesting concept for sure. I’m curious to see whether this will take off or not.
