The northern lights on October 10 were spectacular. I was fortunate to be in Northern Michigan (for some rounds of October golf) to see them.
Tonight’s lights apparently were the product of a “severe solar storm.” via ABC News:
A fast-moving coronal mass ejection (CME) — a powerful burst of magnetized plasma from the sun’s corona — erupted from the sun on Tuesday night, prompting NOAA’s Space Prediction Center to issue a rare G4 geomagnetic storm watch, indicating “detrimental impacts” to critical technology and possible widespread voltage control problems, according to NOAA.
My Google Pixel 8 did an amazing job of picking up the colors. The lights were so bright we didn’t need a flashlight to walk out onto the dock.
