Odds To Win The 2019 Open Championship
With the Open Championship just around the corner, Golf’s Major-Savant, Brooks Koepka is the bettor’s favorite at 15/2 in the odds to win the 2019 Open Championship.
It is hard to bet against him. Koepka has won four Majors in the last three years and has finished second in two others. It took a career round from Gary Woodland to keep Koepka from winning three US Opens in a row.
So what of reigning US Open winner Gary Woodland? Oddsmakers have him in at 50/1, along with the likes of Mark Leishman, Shane Lowry, Webb Simpson, and Phil Mickelson. In other words: they don’t think he has much of a chance.
Rory McIlroy is a sentimental “home town” favorite. It would be quite a feat to see the Irishman win the Open Championship at an Irish Course. For that reason, I suspect it will be too much pressure for him.
Dustin Johnson and Tiger Woods are both in at 12/1. Tiger of course won the Masters this year, and Johnson has finished second at both the PGA Championship and The Masters. I don’t think, however, that either of those offer much insight into how they might do at a classic links course.
Francesco Molinari and Jordan Spieth are in next at 20/1. Molinari is the reigning Open Champion and has a win this year at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Spieth, on the other hand, has struggled for more than a year now. Currently ranked 72 in the FedEx Cup rankings, I have a hard time envisioning him hoisting the Claret Jug.
