Odds To Win The Memorial 2015

The young phenom Jordan Spieth is the odds-on favorite to win the Memorial Tournament this year, at 13/2. That’s an implied probability of winning of 13%. I wouldn’t take that bet. As talented as he is, Spieth looked a little tired to me at last week’s Byron Nelson. He missed a lot of short and medium putts and ended up on a tie for 30th, eleven shots out of the lead.

Dustin Johnson is second at 12/1, or an effective 7.6% chance of winning. Johnson finished T8 last week at the Byron Nelson. This guy is a remarkable talent, who should be able to take a page from Tiger’s playbook and bomb it around the course’s relatively wide fairways.

Last year’s winner, Hideki Matsuyama is in at 18/1. He’s proven he can win there, and it’s a course that somehow favors repeat winners: Tiger x 5, Kenny Perry x 3, Hale Irwin, Tom Watson, Greg Norman and Jack Nicklaus, twice each.

At 20/1, or an effective 4.75% chance are the duo of Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler. Both are solid bets in my mind. I continue to believe that it is only a matter of time before Rickie starts to reel of a series of wins.

Finally at the top of the board, we have Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson each at 22/1. You can’t rule Tiger out here. The Memorial is one of six courses that comprise half of Tiger’s career victories. If he has any game left at all, he will at least contend at The Memorial.
