Tiger Woods is foremost in everyone’s thoughts whenever the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines rolls around. Tiger has won eight times in San Diego, including his famous 2010 win at the US Open on a broken leg. In spite of this, given his recent troubles, Tiger is not at the top of the odds to win the Farmers Insurance Open in 2017. He is, however, at 30/1, which is higher than his performance over the last few years probably warrants.
Dustin Johnson actually is the favorite for this year’s edition of the Farmers Insurance Open. Johnson, who is in at 8/1, has two victories on the West Coast Swing: at Pebble Beach in 2009 and 2010. The Farmers Insurance Open is Johnson’s first full-field event of 2017.
Jason Day is in at 10/1. Day is currently number one in the world golf rankings, but finished 12th in his only PGA TOUR appearance thus far: the limited field Tournament of Champions. He is, however, a past Farmers Insurance Open champion.
In recent months, Hideki Matsuyama has been on fire. With two wins and two seconds in six PGA TOUR events in this wrap-around season, Matsuyama is currently second in FedEx Cup points. He is in at 12/1. He’s my fantasy pick for this week.
Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed and Brandt Snedeker all are in at 25/1. Snedeker won in 2016.. They’re followed by Justin Rose at 28/1. Rose has played well in recent months, and took second at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Behind Rose is the aforementioned Tiger Woods, along with Rickie Fowler, Jimmy Walker and Phil Mickelson. I don’t think you could go wrong with any of those guys. Phil has won the event three times before.
