Odds To Win The 2011 Barclays

The PGA Tour “Playoffs” are here, and Luke Donald is the favorite to win the first round at The Barclays. And why not? He’s number one in the (highly flawed) world rankings. Donald is in at 12/1, with Adam Scott and Steve Stricker close at hand at 16/1. Bettors also like Jason Day at 20/1, Nick Watney at 22/1, Matt Kuchar and Phil Mickelson at 25/1,Dustin Johnson and Webb Simpson at 28/1 and David Toms at 33/1.

As usual, I think the trend is for the winner to come from the mid to low odds. Keegan Bradley was 125/1 to win the PGA Championship, and runner up Jason Dufner was 175/1. That’s the parity on the PGA Tour showing. This week, Keegan Bradley is in at 40/1. The kid’s got game, but its probably too much to expect him to win a pair of big events so close together.

There’s an interesting crowd in this week at 80/1, and I think the winner could very well come from one of them: Aaron Baddeley, Anthony Kim, Brendon De Jonge, Camilo Villegas, Carl Pettersson, Davis Love III,
Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, John Senden, Lucas Glover, Robert Allenby, Ryan Moore, Scott Verplank, Spencer Levin, Trevor Immelman, Vijay Singh, and Y-E Yang.
