Odds To Win The Players Championship

Its deja vu all over again, as Tiger Woods is the bettors favorite in yet another tournament. The odds are a little longer this time, at 14/1, but he’s still ahead of world number three Luke Donald (16/1) and number four Phil Mickelson.

Truth be told, this week is so packed with talent that it’s probably anyone’s game. Again, I think middle of the pack is as good a place as any to find the eventual winner. Look at the track record over the last month or so: Last week’s winner, Lucas Glover, was 100/1. Watson was a favorite at 25/1 in last week’s Zurich Classic, but almost-winner Web Simpson was middle of the pack at 50/1. The previous week, Brandt Snedeker was 33/1 for the Heritage—inside the top ten choices. Steele came from out of the field at the Valero, while Charl Schwartzel was 50/1 before the Masters.

For my part, I’ll take the group of guys at 33/1: Adam Scott, Jim Furyk, Martin Kaymer, Matt Kuchar and Nick Watney. I’d love to hear your picks for this week:

  1. Here is my fantasy team:
Phil, Luke, Bubba, Brandt, Byrd, Padraig, No. Eight, Baddeley, Boo, Tommy Two Gloves.

No. Eight I don’t think will win, but I think he will bring in some money by coming in T4 to T6, somewhere in there.

Also Boo and Baddeley I think are longer shots, but they are there because I was trying to get in 10 players and still have enough cash in there I don’t have to drop Phil or Luke if Ben Crane, Rory, Graeme, Cink, Glover, or Sabbatini is in the running and I want to pick them up on the waiver on Saturday night.  I have $1.5m left, so if it is someone like Hunter (who was on my initial picks) I will have to drop either Phil, Luke, or Bubba.

But if I can pick only 3 it would be: Bubba, Rory, Phil.  Tommy Two Gloves is my #4 pick, he is primed and ready – this might be too big a win for him – but he just might – and I do think he will be well up the leaderboard.

I don’t think it will be Kucher, Furyk, Westwood or Els.

  2. Luke Donald Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar.

Rickie Fowler, Ian Poulter as possibles.

Aaron Baddeley as an outside pick.

Charles Howell III as a long-shot.

Sabbatini for an invasive strip-search at Jacksonville International.

  3. Given what Bubba has said, (about the difficulty for him at Sawgrass) and that he isn’t going to play a practice round – I don’t know whether to drop him for another or that he must be a sure thing now.

He is probably going to get dropped for the time being to pick up Rickie or Rory M.

  4. LOL – McIllroy isn’t even in it!  Ok, so Bubba stays in for now.  It is the year of the Bubba anyway.
