Odds To Win The Wells Fargo Championship

An overused phrase in golf broadcasting is “this tournament feels like a Major.” In the case of the Wells Fargo Championship, it’s closer than usual. Thirty five of the top fifty players in the world are scheduled to tee it up, including five of the top ten: Rory McIlroy (1), Lee Westwood (3), Hunter Mahan (5), Tiger Woods (8) and Phil Mickelson (9)

Headliners Rory McIlroy (15/1) and Tiger Woods (9/1) are the oddsmakers favorites, with the other top three trailing by several points.  Mickelson is in at 12/1, Westwood at 14/1 and Mahan at 20/1. The effective percentage chances to win are McIlroy (11.76%), Woods (10%), Mickelson (7.29%), Westwood (7.14%) and Mahan (4.76%).

Other likely prospects also are there, including reigning Champion Webb Simpson and Major champions Keegan Bradley and Zach Johnson at 33/1. Indeed, the field includes eighteen Major Championship winners:  Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Angel Cabrera, Retief Goosen, Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Ben Curtis, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Lucas Glover, Trevor Immelman, Zach Johnson, Davis Love III, Rory McIlroy, Geoff Ogilvy, David Toms, Mike Weir.

Not bad.

  1. I like the way Lee Westwood has been playing this year and think he can break through year. Had a solid 2012 US Masters and has a good chance of winning here.
