With every big name in golf present at the WGC Cadillac, it’s got to be hard on the oddsmakers. Bettors have fixed newly crowned World Number 1 Rory McIlroy and former #1 Tiger Woods as the odds on favorites, at 11/2. Those numbers represent an implied probability of a 15% chance of winning the tournament.
I’m not surprised at those numbers, given the way Tiger charged up the leaderboard last Sunday at the Honda.
Lee Westwood and Phil Mickelson are next in at 12/1, or 7.69%. Charl Schwartzel, who played well at the Honda, is in at 20/1 (4.76%). Bettors have Dustin Johnson and Luke Donald at 25/1 (3.85%). Rounding out the top ten are Martin Kaymer, Hunter Mahan and Nick Watney at 28/1 (3.45%).
The truth is, though, that there probably are at least fifty players who could win this week—as every one of the top fifty are in the field this week.
