Ousted Thai PM Is New PGA President

imageIn one of the strangest job changes ever, ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has been named the new president of the Professional Golf Association of Thailand.
Shinawatra, who was in his second term as Prime Minister was overthrown on 19 September 2006 by a military junta. He was exiled and warned by the junta not to return to Thailand. Subsequently, his diplomatic passport was revoked after he was accused of coordinating the political opposition while in exile. Thai embassies have been ordered not to facilitate his travel, and all media reporting on him has been banned in that country.

The Thai PGA, however, seems to think that his status as an exile will have no effect on his performance as the head of the organization.
