Pebble Beach Quarter Zip Pullover
Teacher’s Comments: A great golf sweater.
Planning clothing for a fall golf round in Michigan can be tricky. Temperatures generally hover between the 40s and 60s, but not all those days are created equal. A still, sunny day with temperatures in the upper 40s feels warmer than a cloudy, windy day in the upper 60s. Rounds that start in near-freezing temperatures in the morning rise to shorts-and-sleeves territory by noon. Weather can change from hole to hole. There are lots of rounds where I’m taking a sweater off on hole two, and putting it back on when I get to the third.
To cope with Michigan’s wild temperature swings, I’m always in search of versatile golf outerwear. The Pebble Beach Quarter Zip Pullover fits the bill.
The Pebble Beach pullover is in the Goldilocks Zone: not too heavy, or too light, but just right. I’ve worn it on a couple of very chilly mornings and been warm enough, but still found it comfortable as a sunny upper fifties day emerged. Warmer than that, and I go to shirtsleeves and begin to wonder if I should have worn shorts or a lighter pair of pants.
The fabric is a “heathered polyester interlock,” with moisture-wicking properties. It feels soft and looks good.
I also appreciate that Pebble Beach’s pullover is roomy and doesn’t restrict my swing at all. Over the years, I’ve tested a variety of colder weather clothing that binds across my shoulders as I turn.
My one criticism is that the sleeve ends are open and loose, as you can see in the photo. I would have liked to see elastic cuffs to help them stay in place. As it is, though, I just push the sleeves up on my forearms. The bottom of the pullover also lacks either elastic or a drawstring, but that’s less of an issue for me.
Pebble Beach is one of several brands managed by Dynamic Designs – SWC, which include Pebble Beach, Spyglass and Bolle.
For cooler weather, this Pebble Beach pullover has found a permanent place in the clothing pocket of my golf bag.
