PGA Has The Best Field Among Professional Tournaments

The PGA Championship often is an afterthought in the quatrain of majors, but according to GolfWeek, it’s had the toughest field among all professional tournaments from 2007 – 2009. Using a rating system called Total Rating Values, Golfweek says that the PGA Championship has a 879 rating, compared to its nearest competitor, the Masters at 819.3.

Total Rating, Golfweek says is determined by how many of the world’s top 200 are in the field (with higher ranked players worth more points), and players from the top 30 on the host tour’s money list in the previous season.

The top five were:
PGA Championship – 879
Masters – 819.3
Players Championship 818
US Open 809.7
WGC-CA 805.3

The weakest was the St. Jude Classic, at 278.3.
