PGA Tour Schedule 2012

The PGA Tour’s 2012 schedule remains steady at 45 official money events, including 37 regular season, four playoff and four fall series tournaments. That’s the same as in 2011.

There have, however, been a few changes with regards to dates, host sites and an off week.

Two new title sponsors also appear on the schedule: the Humana Challenge in partnership with the Clinton Foundation in La Quinta, Calif., replaces the long standing “Bob Hope” and the RBC Heritage at Hilton Head Island, S.C. continues that Tournament’s revolving door of sponsors.

The 2012 season actually begins with a change: the season opening Hyundai Tournament of Champions ends on Monday, Jan. 9 to avoid the NFL Playoffs. It also will get the final round in prior to the start of the BCS National Championship game. (as an aside, does anyone but me think it totally absurd that the college “title game” is on the NINTH of January.  I remember when it was possible for them to get it all done by the end of Jan 1.)

The RBC Heritage moves back to its traditional week-after-The-Master’s spot, while the Valero Texas Open follows that by a week.
Other date changes include:

• Two Texas tournaments—the HP Byron Nelson Championship, May 14-20, and Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial, May 21-27—switching weeks with one another immediately following THE PLAYERS Championship;

• The Greenbrier Classic moving from the end of July to July 2-8, allowing the resort’s Independence Day activities to be showcased around the tournament

• The Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, the last event of the Fall Series, moving from October to the week of Nov. 5-11.

Four tournaments will be held at different courses than were used in 2011, including two Playoff tournaments—The Barclays opens the Playoffs Aug. 20-26 at Bethpage State Park-Black Course on Long Island, N.Y., and the third Playoff event, the BMW Championship, will be held for the first time at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Indianapolis, Ind., Sept. 3-9.

The other two changes are the AT&T National returning to Congressional Country Club in Washington, D.C., the week of June 25-July 1 following a two-year absence, and the RBC Canadian Open moving east to Hamilton Golf & Country Club in Ontario, July 23-29.
