Playing The Loop at Forest Dunes

Hole One of The Loop at Forest Dunes - Counterclockwise
Hole One of The Loop at Forest Dunes – Counterclockwise

I was lucky enough to get a preview round of The Loop, Tom Doak’s new reversible course at Forest Dunes in Roscommon, Michigan. This is a view of the first hole, when played in a counter-clockwise direction.

The same fairway serves the eighteenth when playing in a counter-clockwise direction.

The Loop is an incredibly fun course, looking and playing like a links course — sans the water, of course. I really thin it has been a long time since I have had this much pure fun on a course. Not that The Loop is easy; a player could easily run up a high score. It is just that there are so many options on so many shots.

I played counter-clockwise yesterday. I’ll play the course clockwise today (Thursday).
