With temperature in the 50s — a rarity in November in Michigan — I got out to play the University of Michigan golf course on Sunday.
The course lies directly across from the “Big House” and the basketball coliseum. It’s an Alister MacKenzie design that was built in 1931. I have long said that I will never get a chance to play Augusta National, but I at least have the chance to play an Aliser MacKensie course in Ann Arbor.
The University of Michigan golf course is very hilly, and offers some great views of the city.
On football weekends, the course is used as a parking lot for fans at the “Big House,” Michigan’s 107,000 seat stadium. It is amazing to me that after a Saturday of parking and tailgating, the course was litter-free (I saw a solitary crushed bottle) and in great shape. Groundskeepers had aerated the greens a week ago, but I had no problem with the flatstick.
A round at the University of Michigan Golf Course this time of year was just $25, which is an incredible bargain.
