Prestwick Village Hosting 48th Fuller Cup Tuesday

Prestwick Village Hosting GAM, PGA Teams for 48th Fuller Cup Matches

HIGHLAND – Prestwick Village Golf Club, which earlier this summer hosted the 100th Michigan PGA Professional Championship, is hosting the 49th Fuller Cup Matches Tuesday.

Top amateur golfers representing the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) and top PGA professionals representing the Michigan Section PGA (PGA) square off in a Ryder Cup-like format with six four-ball matches and 12 singles matches to determine a winning team.

FootJoy is the clothing sponsor for the matches.

Award-winning Prestwick will challenge the golfers with a variety of holes, including some links style, traditional parkland and some carved from woodlands. Located just north of Milford in Highland Township on 426 acres of natural, rolling terrain amid a family-focused community, Prestwick was designed by architect Ron Garl. The course can play to as many as 7,142 yards but features six tee positions.

In addition to the historic Michigan PGA Professional Championship this year, four Michigan Open Championships were recently presented at Prestwick Village and the club has also hosted various GAM tournaments and GAM and USGA qualifiers over the last several years.

Brent Goulding is the director of golf, and Eric Davey the superintendent at the private club that also features one of the nation’s top-ranked golf ranges/practice centers.

Representing the GAM this year will be James Piot of Canton, Tyler Copp of Ann Arbor, Bradley Smithson of Grand Rapids, Tyler Rayman of Otsego, Jimmy Chestnut of Royal Oak, Brad Bastion of Shelby Township, John Quigley of Sterling Heights, Charlie DeLong of DeWitt, Mike Anderson of Northville, Anthony Sorentino of Rochester Hills, August Meekhof of Eastmanville and Ryan Johnson of New Boston.

Representing the PGA will be Scott Brotebeck of Flint Golf Club, Tim Pearce of- Birmingham Country Club, Brian Cairns of Fox Hills Learning Center, Scott Hebert of Traverse City Golf & Country Club, Josh Fryer of Franklin Hills Country Club, John Seltzer of Seltzer Golf School, Jeff Roth of BOYNE Golf Academy, Chad Kurmel of MSU Forest Akers West, Gary Lewandowski of Tullymore Golf Club, Matt Zavadil of Oakland University Golf & Learning, Scott Cook of Golf Club at Thornapple Pointe and Josh Proben of Western Golf & Country Club

Last year, the GAM Team won 13-5 at Cascade Hills Country Club. It was the third consecutive win for the GAM and seventh in the last 11 years. The PGA, however, leads 34-12-2 in the series that started in 1971.

The format has changed over the years, but the matches are presented to promote sportsmanship, friendship and quality golf among professionals and amateurs. The matches are named for the late Ernest Fuller, a Michigan golf course developer. The GAM team is selected through the use of the GAM Honor Roll and availability and the PGA selects its team via money list standing and availability.
