While watching the latest Ryder Cup blowout, it occurred to me that a great many of the players on the “European Team,” don’t actually live in Europe. They’re Floridians with funny accents. So I did a little research.
Player | Residence |
McDowell | Orlando |
Stenson | Orlando |
McIlroy | Palm Beach Gardens, Florida |
Rose | Orlando |
Gallacher | Linlithgow, Scotland |
Kaymer | Scottsdale, Arizona |
Thomas Bjorn | Gothenburg, Sweden |
Garcia | Castellón, Spain |
Poulter | Orlando |
Donaldson | MacclesfieldEngland |
Dubuisson | Antibes, France |
As it turns out, just under half the team has Florida as their place of residence. That’s actually higher than the American team percentage.
Player | Residence |
Spieth | Dallas |
Reed | Spring, Texas |
Fowler | Jupiter, Florida |
Mahan | Colleyville, Texas |
Mickelson | San Diego |
Watson | Windermere, Florida |
Kuchar | Sea Island, Georgia |
Furyk | Ponte Verde Beach, Florida |
Simpson | Charlotte, North Carolina |
Walker | San Antonio, Texas |
Johnson | St. Simons Island, Georgia |
Further, ten of the twelve members of Team Europe Florida were members of the PGA TOUR this past season. So another way to look at it is that the PGA TOUR team beat the PGA Tour team.
American fans: Don’t feel bad about the US loss in the Ryder Cup. Team USA lost to the best team Florida and the PGA TOUR could field.
