Sam Snead’s Swing

Sam Snead's SwingWith all due respect to Fred Couples, for my money, Sam Snead had the sweetest swing in golf history. It may also have been the most durable.

Snead currently has the most wins in golf history at 82. His first win was in 1936 at the West Virginia Closed Pro at the Greenbrier. His PGA TOUR win was in 1965 at the Greater Greensboro Open.  That’s a nearly 30 year span between his first and last wins. On the Senior Tour, Snead last won in 1982.

In the video below — from the practice range at the 1977 Masters —  pay attention to Snead’s leg movement. Unlike many current players, there was quite a bit of leg action. I’m not a professional golf instructor, but I think it may have something to do with Snead’s longevity.
