Scott Leads The Open Championship

Adam Scott has never led after any round of a Major, but he’s at the top of the leaderboard after the first round of the Open Championship. His opening round 64 put him at -6, one ahead of Nick Colsaerts, Zach Johnson and Paul Lawrie.

I don’t know that anyone predicted an Adam Scott victory, but I would be very happy to see him pull one out. He’s always struck me as a quality person.

Tiger is three back.

I love some of the names near the top of the leaderboard. So many of them have a chance to win … Brandt Snedeker at -4, and a pile at -3: Ernie Els, Bubba Watson, Graeme McDowell, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Steve Stricker.

Disappointments: At +3: Graeme McDowell, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson.

Michigan flavor: Justin Hicks, who grew up in Wyandotte, Michigan and played for the University of Michigan, is at -2. Hicks, 37, currently plies his trade on the Web.Com Tour (Nationwide). Since GolfBlogger HQ is in Ann Arbor, I’m rooting for the guy.

  1. It is a great looking 1st round leaderboard at a major championship. Being an Australian I’m really hoping Adam can go all the way here. He’s changed his major preparation this year and so far it is working well. Good performances at both the US Masters and US Open.

    Hopefully this is his time.
