Selfridge Valor Cup to Raise Awareness for Female Veterans with Second Golf Event
HARRISON TOWNSHIP – The Selfridge Valor Cup, for the second consecutive year, is inviting and seeking female military veterans to play free golf with female professional golfers, including some who will be playing in the LPGA Volvik Championship later that week (May 21-27).
The Eisenhower Center has once again partnered with Selfridge Air Force Base and the Volvik Championship to help raise awareness for the needs of female military veterans.
“Eisenhower Center is proud to offer this opportunity and touch the lives of the women who have served our country through our philosophy of Quiet Strength,” Eisenhower CEO John Cornack said.
The second Selfridge Valor Cup pro-am golf outing is planned for Tuesday, May 22, at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base Golf Course near Mt. Clemens to kick off the tournament week.
The LPGA Volvik Championship is being played Thursday, May 24, through Sunday, May 27, at Travis Pointe Country Club in Ann Arbor.
The Valor Cup festivities will start at 11 a.m. that Monday with a 12:30 p.m. shotgun start for the golf and a 5 p.m. dinner and awards program following.
High-ranking military officials are expected to attend the Valor Cup and celebrate the partnership of the LPGA Volvik Championship, Selfridge ANGB and the Eisenhower Center.
“The Eisenhower Center is one of the nation’s leading treatment centers for PTSD and TBI for our Veterans,” said Brigadier General Richard Miller (Ret). “Together, we are proud to honor our female veterans with a day of recognition and golf with great professional players.”

The U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal’s Family Morale, Welfare and Recreation division runs the 18-hole Selfridge golf course. It was established in the late 1940s and is situated at the southeast end of the base flight line. A $2.6 million renovation project in October 1997 resulted in a full-service golf facility, including a practice facility.
The Valor Cup at Selfridge is not a public event, but golf fans can get tickets to the LPGA Volvik Championship at volviklpga.com.
