So Many Golf Things With Batteries

As I was headed out to play on this cold morning at Washtenaw Golf Club, it struck me that a lot of my preparation was about being certain that all my batteries were charged.

My MGI electric trolley has a giant lithium battery, as does its remote. The cart battery will last two rounds if I forget to charge it, but I’d rather not test the outer edges of its capacities. I have no idea how many rounds the remote will last, as I always charge it at the same time as the trolley battery.

On this cold morning, I had two lithium battery handwarmers (the blue tubes on the left). Unfortunately, I had forgotten to charge one of them, so I was shifting the other from hand pocket to hand pocket.

My Garmin GPS golf watch will last for a week or more on a charge. I never really worry about it. I’ve got it on nearly all the time and check its battery on a nightly basis. There’s a charger on my bedstand.

All of my cameras run on lithium batteries. On this day, I brought my Sony; it’s much smaller than my Canon 80D.

My phone of course runs on a battery, as do my earbuds. I like to listen to things when I’m playing, but am not so self-absorbed to believe that others also want to hear my noise.

As I’m writing this, I thought of several other battery powered things I might have hauled along, including a laser range finder, a portable launch monitor and a battery to back up my batteries.

Most of this, I suppose, is unnecessary. I have a perfectly fine push cart. The battery hand warmers are cool, but I also have Zippo hand warmers which run on catalyzed lighter fluid. At Washtenaw, I don’t really need a gps watch; I’ve played so many times, I know what my yardages are. I could absolutely play in silence and forgo the phone and earbuds.

But I still want the camera. I never know when the perfect photo will set itself up.
