The Song That Gets Stuck In Your Head

I am certain that everyone has had the experience of getting a song stuck in their head. It arrives unbidden and unwanted, then plays over and again to the point of distraction. It’s A Small World, anyone?

Today, for some inexplicable reason, I got a trio of golf holes stuck in my head. They kept replaying in my mind and it was driving me crazy that I could not remember which course they belonged to. There was a short, uphill par four with a bunker right; a medium length par four that wrapped around a lake, and then a long par three. I could picture each clearly, and even remember my shots, but no name was forthcoming.

When I got home from work (and then a round at my local muni), I went straight to my Adobe Lightroom collection of photos. I thought that the course was “Up North” in Michigan, and was certain that the architect was a relatively famous name. After several false starts, I found the holes. They’re the sixth, seventh and eighth at Cedar River at Shanty Creek. The architect was Tom Weiskopf.

The sixth at Cedar River is a 373 yard par 4.
The sixth at Cedar River is a 373 yard par 4.
The seventh at Cedar River is a 427 yard par 4
The seventh at Cedar River is a 427 yard par 4
The eighth at Cedar River is a 203 yard par 3.
The eighth at Cedar River is a 203 yard par 3.

Mystery solved. And now I can stop obsessing over it.
