Avid readers know that the Gutenberg Project offers a vast selection of out-of-copyright books free for the downloading. No need to pay Amazon or Barnes and Noble or Kobo to read a classic text.
Avid users of the Gutenberg Project also know that the offerings are not always properly formatted. I appreciate the efforts of the Gutenberg volunteers, but the books sometimes have issues that get in the way of enjoyment.
Now there’s a new volunteer project; Standard Ebooks. From the site:
Standard Ebooks takes ebooks from sources like Project Gutenberg, formats and typesets them using a carefully designed and professional-grade style guide, lightly modernizes them, fully proofreads and corrects them, and then builds them to take advantage of state-of-the-art ereader and browser technology.
Standard Ebooks aren’t just a beautiful addition to your digital library—they’re a high quality standard to build your own ebooks on.
There aren’t any golf books up yet, but I found a nice edition of PG Wodehouse’s Right Ho, Jeeves. Wodehouse frequently incorporated golf into his stories.
