I first met Jimmy Dee Dowsett at the Volvik Championship in Ann Arbor, where he was manning a booth for an organization he founded called “Moving Day For MS.” I was intrigued because I have a family member with Multiple Sclerosis.

Dee had an interesting story. An Air Force veteran and Asian Golf Tour player, he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001. Instead of stepping back, Dee stepped forward and focused his attention on using golf to help those with Multiple Sclerosis.

“Moving Day For MS” encourages professional golfers around the world to wear orange (the official color of the fight against MS) during Saturday Tournament rounds. Saturday is known in the golf world as “moving day,” because that’s the big opportunity for players to move up the leaderboard to be in a position Sunday to win.

Moving Day For MS is also appropriate because the rallying cry for people with MS is “Keep Moving!”

Funds raised through Moving Day For MS are used to help MS patients with mobility solutions, and adaptive equipment.

Dee also has run adaptive golf tournaments that extend beyond the MS community.

There is no cure for MS, and drugs to control the symptoms are only effective for about half of patients. Unfortunately Jimmy Dee is not a candidate for the new and more powerful drugs that have been developed.

He does see a glimmer of hope, however in treatment called a Portable Neurotransmitter Simulator which is offered over 14 weeks in a facility in Canada. That’s why he started a GoFundMe and is asking for people’s help.

If you’ve got a couple of bucks to spare, you might consider helping Jimmy Dee so he can continue to help others.
