Teacher’s Comments: I think it works as advertised, but it is impossible to be sure.

Swing Oil is a pre-round nutritional drink designed to aid with flexibility and focus via supplements such as glucosamine, chondroitin and tumeric, taureine, thodiola rosea extract, citrulline malate and ginseng extract. Swing Oil comes in several flavors: Orange, Lemon-Lime, and Strawberry-Banana.

I have tried the samples Swing Oil sent on a number of rounds, and think that it is entirely possible that Swing Oil works as advertised. After drinking the 3 ounce packet, I have been under the impression that I’m a bit more clear-headed and relaxed.

Recently, I shot my best round in two years after a dose of Strawberry-Banana Swing Oil. Everything on that afternoon felt crisp, fluid and smooth.

However, it is impossible to say if Swing Oil had any effect at all. I may very well have shot that low round without the aid of Swing Oil.

It is also entirely possible that the Swing Oil offers nothing more than a placebo effect. I expect to feel and play better, therefore I do.

Still, the compounds in Swing Oil have in various studies been shown to have beneficial effects. Glucosamine, for example, is an amino acid that has been shown to be beneficial for cartilage. Chonroitin is a compound that studies suggest can affect joint lubrication. Tumeric has been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects. Taurine is thought to have an effect on athletic performance. Ginseng advocates claim that it can improve concentration.

The taste of the Swing Oil is decent. I won’t go so far as to say it is “yummy” to the point where I would drink large quantities, but it goes down pretty easily. There is, however a strange aftertaste. I can’t put my finger on it; the closest I can come it to say that it is slightly chalky.  Nothing offensive; just different.

Swing Oil is not cheap. You can buy a pack of 30 for $72 plus shipping, so it works out to at least $2.50 a dose. That is, however, less than the price of a single Pro V1, so perhaps it is not so bad.

In the end, I’d say this is worth a try, especially if you’re one of those golfers who is fovever looking for that little bit of “edge.”
