The Best Golfing Vacations in Michigan

The best golfing vacations in Michigan

Michigan is one of golf’s best kept secrets. People tend to think of golf courses further south, like in California or Florida, where the weather is more consistently sunny, or they think of the old East Coast courses in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

Michigan has a bit of everything. From urban centers like Detroit and Lansing, to quaint small towns, wide open spaces, and beautiful lake coast wilderness, there’s something for everyone. The same is true in the variety of golf courses that the state has to offer.

The golf season in Michigan lasts from April to October, but if you’re willing to risk the cold, many resort courses will stay open later into the year. If the weather doesn’t hold for your entire trip, the selection of Michigan online casinos can keep you entertained until the sun comes back out. You might even be able to find some golf-themed slots to enjoy!

Let’s take a look at some of the best golfing vacations in the Great Lakes state.

Boyne Highlands at Harbor Springs, Harbor Springs

Boyne Highlands at Harbor Springs is a favorite destination for golfers during the warmer months, and once the snow arrives it becomes a skier’s paradise. The resort is currently in the early stages of a 10-year renovation project which will make it an even more attractive destination.

There are five courses at The Highlands. The Arthur Hills course is recognized as one of the best in Michigan. The Heather course and the Moor course both have strong selling points, one of them being the Moor course’s numerous doglegs. The Cuff Links course is free and offers a relaxed atmosphere which is perfect for families with little ones learning to golf.

The Donald Ross Memorial course is one of the most exciting at the resort. Each hole on the course is a replica of one of legendary designer Ross’s most famous holes. The first hole, for example, is a replica of the sixth hole at Seminole Golf Club in North Palm Beach, Florida while the 10th hole is a replica of the 14th hole at the Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Dornoch, Scotland. If you want to play some of the best holes in the world all in one place, this is the course for you.

Boyne Mountain Resort, Boyne Falls

Boyne Mountain Resort is another resort that caters to golfers in the spring and summer and to skiers in the winter. The resort has plenty of activities to keep your family busy while you’re on the course. There’s an indoor waterpark, a zipline, miles of trails for hiking, biking and horseback riding, and fishing on the lake.

The resort features two golf courses. The Alpine course is nestled in the wooded hills above Deer Lake and offers panoramic views as you work your way down the mountain. The Monument course is classically designed and ends with a twist — the 18th hole is on a little island.

Bay Mills Resort and Casino, Brimley

Bay Mills Resort and Casino manages to make entertainment and luxury convenient. The hotel also houses a splash park, an adults-only saltwater pool and a spa. Is there anything better than a day on the links followed by a massage and a quiet soak? The casino features all the classic games as well as sports betting kiosks and a bingo hall. There’s also a venue for live music and comedy.

Aside from the Sweetgrass Golf Club, visitors also have access to the newly opened Sage Run course which has a striking natural drumlin running through the course. One thing to consider if you’re planning a late fall or winter trip is that you won’t be able to sleep in. If you want to get in a full 18-holes, you’ll need to start in the morning to make sure you have enough time before sunset.

A-Ga-Ming Golf Resort, Kewadin

The A-Ga-Ming Resort is built on the shores of Torch Lake and is a must for avid golfers who want a bit of variety. The resort boasts 72 holes, all on courses along Torch Lake and Lake Michigan. The four courses — Torch, Sundance, Antrim Dells and the Charlevoix Country Club — all have different qualities that make a stay well worth anyone’s time.

Consider Michigan for your next golfing getaway, there are tons of beautiful options and the scenery alone is worth the trip. Just watch out for the water hazards, Michigan is the land of 11,000 lakes after all!
