The GolfBlogger Travels To Visit Morocco

This past week, I had the opportunity of a lifetime: to visit Morocco as the guest of the Moroccan National Tourist Office. The tour took us from Casablanca to Rabat, El Jadida and Marrakech. We stayed in fine hotels, ate amazing food, saw wondrous sights, learned about the people, culture and government, and shopped in the souks. And of course, there also was absolutely amazing golf.

Seriously. Golf in Morocco. It is terrific. If I was looking for a place to spend a week’s golf vacation in mid winter in the United States, Morocco would be one of the top spots on my list. The golf is diverse, with courses in cork-, palm- and olive tree-lined parklands, by the sea, and in the desert. We played a Robert Trent Jones course, a Gary Player layout, and one by Cabell Jones, a prolific European based architect who is a disciple of RTJ. If there is a style of golf that you enjoy, you will likely find it among the fifty plus courses in Morocco. Even better: people are extraordinarily friendly, the culture and food are noteworthy, and the cost quite affordable. On a return trip, I would bring Mrs. GolfBlogger, who could enjoy luxury travel amenities such as spas and beaches while I hit the links.

Over the next few days and weeks, I’ll post photos, commentary and reviews of the places we visited, including Rabat and the old city of Rabat, Villa Mandarine, Dar Es Salam Royal Golf Club in Rabat, Mazagan, The Gary Player Course at Mazagan, the famous souk and other sights in Marrakech, and two courses in Marrakech: Moroccan Royal Palm Golf Club and Amelkis.

I cannot thank the Moroccan National Tourist Office, and our host, Chakib Ghadouani enough for this extraordinary opportunity.

Visit Morocco. I don’t think you’ll regret it.
